The painting, formerly in the collection of the Count Ingenheim in Reisewitz, was acquired by A. S. Drey, a dealer from Munich, in the 1920s. Drey sold it in 1925 to M. Knoedler, New York, from whom it was purchased by Lord Bearsted in the same year.
