This is the sketch for the watercolour "San Benedetto near Subiaco" once a part of the collection of Else Sohn-Rethel in Düsseldorf, destroyed in 1931.

After the premature death of its author the drawing entered the collection of his friend Carl Herrmann, the painter born in Oppeln. After Hermann's return from Rome his collection was transferred to Oppeln and in 1826 to Breslau, where he moved. In the second half of 19th century the drawing was a part of the collection of Adalbert Woelfl. It was purchased by Toni Neisser on the auction of Woelfl's inheritance.
